RARE 1873 CDV (CARTE DE VIS) REAL PHOTOGRAPH OF THE BRAND NEW GRAND CENTRAL STATION BUILDINGS, HORSE AND BUGGIES IN FRONT AND SIDE, BUILDINGS MARKED AT TOP NEW YORK & HARLEM RR NY CENTRAL & HUDSON RIVER RR, PUBLISHED BY E&HT. ANTHONY & CO. 591 BROADWAY NEW YORK MANUFACTURERS OF THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUMS VERY IMPORTANT ITEM INFORMATION, PLEASE READ! This auction is for a rather rare CDV of the newly built Grand Central Station in New York City. All of our CDV's came from an old Southern plantation house attic, the family name was Menard. The back of this CDV says "PUBLISHED BY E&HT. ANTHONY & CO. 591 BROADWAY NEW YORK MANUFACTURERS OF THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUMS" and hand written in ink is "BOUGHT SEPT 18, 1873". The front shows the very imposing Victorian facade of the Grand Central Station and around the tops of the buildings they are marked "NEW YORK & HARLEM RR" and "NY CENTRAL & HUDSON RIVER RR". In 1869, Vanderbilt commissioned architect John B. Snook to build the largest railway station in the world on a large property at 42nd street. The Grand Central Station featured a large glass and steel train shed (650ft long, 100ft high and 200ft wide). But increasing traffic and the smoke from the steam engines obscured vision in the Park Avenue tunnel, causing an accident in 1902. 17 People were killed and a public outcry called
