This is a series of letters 1874/5 written by a seaman( A.A.Phillips) on board the ships he was serving on, to his parents. There is also one letter in original postmarked envelope to his parents informing them that the last ship was presumed lost at sea with all hands. The letters were sent from Brig. Jane Brown and Barque Hermo. They were sent from England, Portugal, Spain and West Indies. The letters have details of journeys made and cargo being carried. The letter informing the parents of loss is dated 1876. It states that the " "Spreto" ( I think) left Cadez in Dec, 1878 and had not been heard of since. The parents address was "The Aquarium Inn .Brighton". As handwriting is almost copperplate, I think the seaman must have been The Master perhaps. This is a very rare original item for the collector.
