9800+ line illustrations in text. Edward Spon. Spon’s Dictionary of Engineering: Civil, Mechanical, Military, and Naval. London, E. & F. N. Spon, Publishers. Published and printed in 1874 with 1881 supplement. Complete in 3 stout volumes and 1 matching supplement. 3131 pages and the 1168 page supplement. Bound in matched custom 1/2 leather raised-hub bindings, Marbled edges and endpapers. Very moderate university ex-library stamps of a US university, limited to a stamp on the top edges, lozenge stamps on the blank after the front endpapers, and spine sticker ghosts. There are no torn or missing pages, or marks of any sort on the text pages. Very clean pages with tight and intact binding. Bookplates of noted British author and inventor Sir David Lionel Salomons, the original owner and commissioner of the bindings. Sir David’s house Broomhill, Tunbridge Wells, England is now a museum. See: /wiki/David_Lionel_Salomons Very uncommon as a full vintage set in nice binding. Profusely illustrated with many thousands of small to medium sized, fine steel-cut illustrations. Overwhelming in scope, with detailed articles for the professional. The original part of the book was also issued in 9 thinner books, with the same material.
