It is 8vo (9 X 6 inches); hardcover; maroon cloth on boards with gilt titles on spine & gilt stamped decorations on boards; boards worn & rubbed; spine end frayed; small repaired tear on top right edge of spine cover; spine cover worn & faded; corners worn; boards securely attached; minor scattered foxing throughout; text block tight; 373 pages + 52 plates & maps. Well illustrated, with numerous illustrations within text and 52 plates and 3 fold-outs, frontispiece. Heinrich Schliemann (6 January 1822 – 26 December 1890) was a German businessman and a pioneer of field archaeology. He was an advocate of the historical reality of places mentioned in the works of Homer.
