Original Woodblock EngravingMorris, Lydon, Fawcett ~ 1875 ~ Original antique hand colored woodblock engraving from A Natural History of the Nests and Eggs of British Birds by Reverend Francis Orpen Morris (1810-1893) from 1875. Morris wrote the text, Alexander Frank Lydon (1836-1917) was the illustrator and Benjamin Fawcett (1808-1893) printed the plates. The collaboration of Fawcett, Lydon and Morris proved extremely successful and in addition to A Natural History of the Nests and Eggs of British Birds, the three collaborated on A History of British Birds, A History of British Butterflies, A History of British Moths and The County Seats of the Noblemen and Gentlemen of Great Britain and Ireland from 1850-1870. An 1885 advertisement for the book states, "this work gives the fullest information respecting the localities and construction of their nests, the number and peculiarities of their eggs, and all the instruction requisite for determining to what species they belong. Each egg is figured and minutely described, and a number of nests are accurately drawn from specimens." Condition: Any imperfections can be seen in the photo.
