H. J. Todd, M.A. with numerous emendments and additions'. Two volumes bound in four volumes. Robert Gordon Latham FRS (24 March 1812 - 9 March 1888) was an English ethnologist and philologist. In 1841 Latham produced a well-known text-book, The English Language . He devoted himself to a thorough revision of Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language, which he completed in 1870. His works on the English language passed through many editions, and were regarded as authoritative till they were superseded by those of Richard Morris and Walter William Skeat. Published on 15 April 1755 and written by Samuel Johnson, A Dictionary of the English Language , sometimes published as Johnson's Dictionary, is among the most influential dictionaries in the history of the English language. With previous owner's bookplates to verso of front free endpapers. CONDITION In half morocco bindings. Externally, generally smart but with bumping and wear to extremities and some marks and stains to boards.
