1876 ANTIQUE BRASS BAUSCH LOMB MICROSCOPE Investigator Up for auction is this awesome Bausch Lomb microscope just purchased from an area estate. I know very little about microscopes but did a little research on the internet and I believe this model is called the Investigator and produced in the mid 1880's through 1890's by Bausch Lomb. It has a patent date on it of Oct 3, 1876. The only Bausch Lomb marking on it that I can find is on the lens- t are 2 - a 1/5 and a 3/4(on the microscope) and come with the 2 brass tubes for them. T is also an additional eyepiece and a box of slides. The mirror piece has a convex mirror on one side with minor age spotting and flat mirror on the other side, very good shape. The condenser is made of what appears to be bakelite. It has a rotating circle again of bakelite with varying sizes of holes- t is piece broken off of it at the largest hole- doesn't really affect the viewing of the slide. The brass piece that holds the slides is 3 3/8" across and one of the metal clips to hold the slide is missing. It still has the original wood case-the top and bottom front edge pieces evidently came loose and were reglued so t is glue residue t . The microscope measures approx 12" tall when it is compacted to fit in the case. A neat old piece-if you have any questions feel free to ask I will try my best to answer them. I have not attempted to polish the microscope, I will leave the joy of that to the new owner- it should clean up beautifully. Selling at no reserve- have fun
