This ferrotype came from a nice family estate auction held in Delta, Ohio over the weekend. Owner collected buttons, buttons, and buttons spanning over 40 years. This ferrotype was found among her collection.
The images are crisp and vivid. Colour tone is excellent. Clean. Bright. T is some loss to the Hayes image. Looks like a pin scratch. The brass surround is in superb condition. Front is beaded and beveled. Patina on both the front and back is outstanding. Probably was a pin-back or stick pin, and is now a faceted button.
Overall, think this ferrotype is a bit rarer to find than one might suspect. Is fresh to the market, in extremely fine condition, and would be an exemplary piece for any collector of historic Americana.
