This is a rare piece of history for toy theatre / theater collectors. It is so great!! It is titled Redington's Characters & Scenes in Paul Clifford with 8 plates of characters, 10 scenes, 3 wings & 1 top drop- All the pages are hand colored with watercolor. I date this 1876 because Mr. Redington died in 1876 and the company was given to his son in law Mr. Pollock at that time. The book has a total of 22 pages and the first 15pages were published in London by J. Redington 73 Hoxton Street, Formerly called 208 Hoxton Old Town and the last 7 pages are published by B. Pollock 73 Hoxton Street, Hoxton. I have researched this a little and found out that J. Redington which was JK Greens agent is the one who took the toy theatre business over and continued selling JK Greens work as his own as he reproduced 19 of Greens plays but Redington made 7 of his own plays and this Paul Clifford is one of them. There is some pretty interesting articles on the internet about these toy theatre with so many pictures to show what they look like when they were set up to look like a stage. It is so awesome that this book is complete, uncut and colored. There is some foxing going around edges of the pages and the only thing holding all the pages together is a string sewn to keep them all together. There is a rust mark on the back of book from where a paper read more
