This map and etchings are from a very scarce and important part of history. It is from an atlas printed in 1877 compiled and drawn by E.L.Hayes for the Titus Simmons & Titus publishers. The format of the book covers the Upper Ohio river and valley from Pittsburgh Pa. to Cincinnati Ohio.It is NOT a copy but is the real thing. It was printed by H.J.Toudy & Co.,Phila.Pa.engraved by Worley and Bracher. The book was damaged over the years and in the 1937 flood in Ripley Ohio but survived without water damage to the majority of the inside pages. Most all pages are worn and ragged on the edges, some tears and are somewhat brittle and tan with age but, most are complete in color and print. All color is hand painted. This particular map is separated in the middle and is part 8,pages 93,94,95,96.It has a small "slivver" missing from the bottom inseam but does not take out any part of the Great etchings on the reverse side.It shows the river from 117 to 135 miles below Pittsburgh and 332 to 350 miles above Cincinnati.Detailed maps of the three towns of Baresville,Sardis of Monroe County,Ohio and New Martinsville of Wetzel County W.Va.It locates Paden Island and Williamson Island in the river.Once again it identifies where people lived showing their names and also names and locates a lot of the businesses etc. On the reverse sides are 3 large and 3 small
