Circulated 1878 Silver Morgan Dollar 8 Tail Feathers Variety This is a very nice 1878 Morgan silver dollar with 8 Tail Feather I don't know anything about grade or quality, My father passed away recently and left me some old coins. I don't know anything about grade or quality, I have not cleaned or touched the coins they are in the condition I found them. I did not want to take a chance and clean them in an in appropriate manner. I will leave the cleaning to you. My father had these coins in his dresser for at least 50 years, I believe he got them form my grandmother .The images are of the coin you will get, from what I can see both rims are complete with clear denticles; both surfaces show signs of wear. On the obverse, the date, lettering, and design details are clear with very slight wear evident on the highest points. On the reverse, all lettering and design details are sharp the eagle's breast and leg feathers which show slight wear. I will combine shipping on any of my auctions.The 8 Tail Feather variety illustrates how minute details can often become stumbling blocks. Apparently, a bald eagle has only seven tail feathers. When patterns for the Morgan Dollar were designed and struck, the eagle on the reverse displayed the correct number of tail feathers - seven (see Judd 1550 and 1552).
