1879 Cast Iron Mechanical Bank Mule Bucks Black Jockey/NR I was told this bank was made by the J&E Stevens Co, Cromwell, Ct. Circa: 1879. Yes, it is all original untouched paint on his antique Black-Americana-Mechanical Bank. The paint is about 80% displayed and has maintained giving this bank the look of a bronzed statue. Mechanisms work perfect and is original(no repairs). T is even the original hook that holds the jockey in mid flight to his demise. A top of the base reads "I Always Did Spise a Mule". And bottom of base reads - Pat. Date April 22, 1879. The bank works by placing a coin (no bigger than a quarter) in the mouth of the jockey, press the button by the back feet of the mule and up and over the jockey goes....smacking his head on the log and coughing up the coin into the slot. Condition is as I said "authentic, original, working" but coin cover is missing and casting of the legs has cracked which makes the legs kick separately. This was common on these banks because of falling on its side or pressing hard on the hose when resetting. I bought the bank years ago in this condition and felt fine with it because you just don't see these around anymore. Pull the legs down and forward till you hear "click" and they are set - no problem-. You could have a professional repair for about $200.00 if you want to have it in mint read more
