Up for auction is a rare and original US Patent model, with the original patent tags, including the received by tag from May 19, 1879, patent #216,667 submission and acceptance of the Paul S. Forbes Improvement to Tubular Boilers model. T is a contemporary copy with the model of the patent application, providing the patent details with the all important changes made to furnish steam boilers or generators which shall be so constructed as to generate steam faster and with less fuel than boilers constructed the usual way. The model itself and tags are original 1879. Changes made to the fire-chamber, fire grate water-space steam-space and the smoke stack, all detailed in the copy, with partial schematic and some detail on back of patent tag which is original. The model is made from pressed steel and has the original makers label on interior. The label reads "J.F. Werner Model Maker and Machinist 62 Centre Street New York." We did some checking and believe Paul Forbes may have worked for a Railroad or for a company that built the steam engines, although these changes he patented would have had applications outside the railway industry. This may make a fun research project. A wonderful piece of technology history. The model itself is in good condition for the age. One side has an intentional cut out on side to show the patent of the water space changes. Other side has several indentations. Finish wera and scuffing to exterior, Boiler door missing and tubing pipe inside has some corrosion. Still good overall condition for age. It measures 7 1/2"l x 3 1/4"d x 9 5/8"h. A great estate find. Check our other auctions for an 1873 patent model of an Ozone generator found with this piece. We gladly combine to save.
