U P F O R A U C T I O N O N E B A YRidgway S I M L A Y COVERED OVAL BOWL c 1 8 8 0 + · P O L Y C H R O M E · M A D E I N E N G L A N D ITEM: Rare Simlay-Pattern Oval Vegetable Bowl by Ridgway DESCRIPTION/CONDITION: For your consideration...a cream-colored covered bowl highlighted with exotic flowers in an Imari style of orange, purple, yellow and blue hues. Lid has a geometric basket weave pattern around the pagoda shaped lid. Two handles w/worn gold gilt. I am finally selling my Ridgway pieces as this pattern is simply too difficult (exhausting) for me to collect! I began my collection with only two dinner plates given to me by my grandmother thinking I would be able to collect more. In five years, I have only found one soup bowl, a small rectangular bread plate and this vegetable bowl (purchased in London). If you have or collect this pattern - God bless you! Vegetable bowl has no chips or cracks. Moderate crazing, wear to the gold on the handles (as mentioned above) and very slight wear on the rust colored rim. Hallmark on the bottom reads "Simlay - 357". The other piece I have in this pattern are from 1912. This piece has only the Simlay hallmark with an an unreadable age stamp which, unfortunately, is not readable. My other pieces are from 1912 with a different hallmark.
