1880'SMALL 4 " FRENCH ANTIQUE TERRESTRIAL GLOBE LEBEGUE This4 inches French globe has a cartouche "J L Cie " from Paris indicating it is from the J. Lebegue company ( I do not know what the J stand for ) , I was told that this company was a School supply company at the turn of the 19th. century. The base made of ebonized wood, the globe is plastered ball with 12 colored lithographedpaper gores featuring political boundaries colored in outline, ocean currents and floating algae.T is the name of the native American tribes , St Petersburg , Congo Belge but curiously Van Dieman's Land is not yet Tasmania (so. of Australia) , Austro-Hungarian Empire is not established .T is a a crack line between South America and Africa of which can be hiden with some touch up ( I can have it done if desired ,The globe is structurally sound.).H.19 with stand , the globe is 4" ( 10 centimeter) .Meridian half circle is graduated , the globe turns freely around the axe .This Masonic column type of base is sometime seen on English globe. If you know something about it feel free to share it with me. Overall while it is not in pristine condition I believe it is a good value in term of historical content and decorative cachet .It has been professionally clean and is ready to be varnish if desired .I prefer myself to leave it free of possible oxidation from chemical .All of the country and name are easy to read with a magnified glass .T is small spot of missing paper in Siberia without loss of info.. DO ASK QUESTION BEFORE TO BIDS IF IN DOUBT .Californian resident to pay sale tax. Congo is Congo Belge which point to 1885 but as you will see in the picture it was updated on an older plate Van Dieman's Land is not named Tasmania it is why I believe they updated an older plate in the 1880's Most of the Antartica is unexplored T is a restored crack line from South America to Africa , what you see is the shade from the line.Remember that the picture is magnified.
You can see some of the Indian tribes names , Alaska is named Aljaska which is the Dutch spelling ? St Petersburg but no Austro-Hungarian Empire To respect the new rule concerning Link I put a link at the bottom which bring you to "About me " w you can find more information on French Art Deco and French Antiques .This is not an offer to sell outside of Ebay site.
