c.1880 CH Pillivuyt Old Paris Porcelain - Serving Bowl Monogram w/ Provenance - Florida French Huguenots A very fine French monogramed 10" oval serving bowl made by Charles Pillivuyt & Co. in the late 1800's. The bowl is decorated with a band of dusty rose, outlined with gold gilt banding on a white ground - gold detailing enhances the bowl. The bowl has a beautiful monogram, "EFN", for Earl Fredrick Nevers (see history below). The bowl is marked on the underside in red with, "Ch. Pillivuyt & Cie., Paris, Exp. 1867, Medaille dOr".Size is 10" x 7 1/2" x 2" deep. Condition is excellent with no cracks, chips, repairs or scratches - very minimal rubbing of the gold detailing. There are some camera glare spots - not damage. The dinner set was purchased in Palatka, Florida along with this provenance: The set was owned by Earl Frederick Nevers (initials EFN), a French Huguenot descendant. His ancestors fled to Russia from persecution in France, then across the Siberian Strait into Alaska, and then later migrated to the St. Johns River area of Florida. In 1818 Louis Charles Pillivuyt recognized the huge advantages porcelain had over its earthenware and other porous product competitors. He set about creating his own individual combination of raw materials in an attempt to make the highest quality porcelain. His porcelain factory was founded in the Berry Region of central France (one of the two crucibles of the French porcelain industry), at Foecy. In 1853 Charles Pillivuyt decided to move his factory to Mehun on Yevre near the channel of Berry about 250 km (200 miles) outside of Paris (between Bourges and Vierzon).
