1880 CHINA CAMBODIA VIETNAM KIRGHIZ IRAN THAILAND ILLUS Description: ON AUCTION is a magnificent illustrated first edition, a single volume from a big set, The Countries of the World, by Robert Brown, M.A. Published by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co., London, no date, but around 1880. Although this was issued as part of a set, the books were not issued at the same time, and are almost always found separately. We have never seen a complete set. Beautifully bound in blue green decorated cloth, 320 pages, almost no wear save a little foxing. Size is 10 and a half by 7 and a half. Profusely illustrated with hundreds of engravings, some full page. T is a LOT in if you care about Asia. Sections on: Siberia and Kamchatka The Chinese Empire and Hong Kong Tibet Chinese Turkestan Burma (or Myanmar, as its army thugs call it now) Siam (Thailand) Cambodia, Anam, Cochin China (Vietnam and Laos) British Burma India, Sri Lanka, The Maldives Baluchistan Afghanistan Kirghizistan (now having a civil war) The Caspian Russian Central Asia Persia (Iran) Very hard to find.
