Antique LARGE handmade... round steam bent hardwood, steel top & bottom bands, cast steel side handles, circular pine bottom, wooden pegs, steel tacks and faint stamped Wilton, N.H. maker's mark on interior bottom... dry measure... with it's original old green paint over an earlier old red paint painted surface and retaining it's original old dry surface, as found. Wilton , N.H. , 1880's possibly earlier. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 6 lbs. 7 7/8" tall by 14 5/8" diameter at the outer top edge. Antique LARGE handmade... round steam bent hardwood, steel top & bottom bands, cast steel side handles, circular pine bottom, wooden pegs, steel tacks and faint stamped Wilton, N.H. maker's mark on interior bottom... dry measure... with it's original old green paint over an earlier old red paint painted surface and retaining it's original old dry surface, as found. This is one of three measures we are listing today that we found in one barn. The three were once part of a complete set. These three are all we found. Each measure is stamp marked in the interior bottom by a Wilton , N.H. maker whose name is not legible. Each measure has the same blue-green paint on the outside over an earlier old red paint. Each measure is in old original as found in the barn condition retaining the old natural surface. This measure is the biggest. It is in very good condition. The green painted surface is moderately age toned and darkened with traces of the old red creeping through all over. The bottom has some old moisture stains that show off the original green color as well as the original old red. Completely untouched and as found, this one has attractive cast steel side handles and top & bottom steel bands. Adding novelty, the drip marks of the green paint on the side show that the measure was painted up-side-down! Very good as found condition. This measure is in great original condition. Noting that the attractive & minor old paint wear, age toning and soiling on this measure is from actual use, they are considered as positive enhancements. Combining that with the first-rate structural condition of the measure, the measure is in near perfect condition with a great original painted surface. Right out of the barn, it has appropriate surface oxidation and soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs.
