Old vintage antique PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM filled with mostly albumen photos of various locations and people in the eastern part of the WEST INDIES / CARIBBEAN. Each page in this album is a large 12 ¼ x 10 ½ inches, T are a total of 53 photos mounted on 44 pages, most photos are full page. Some photos have captions in the negatives, some have only a photographerÂ's name in the negative, many have neither. The photographs include city overviews and panoramas, street scenes, markets, workers, seaport scenes, church interior, people, etc.. Not dated but circa 1880.
Album cover is edge worn and spine cover is gone, contents still sound with some marginal dustiness. Pages are not perfectly flat but have a little waviness to them. Photos themselves are in excellent condition Â- NO fading, stains, foxing or other defects. The photos generally have nice contrast so that a lot of detail is visible. The photos are sharper than shown in the pictures below. The photos are shown below in the order in which they appear in the album. is a list of all of the photos in the album. Information that is printed in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is info that occurs printed on the photos. Anything given in (parentheses) is information I have added or identifications I have made of a scene from outside sources. No doubt further research will identify many of the unidentified scenes. p.1,2,3 (unidentified) SOME NOTES: CODRINGTON COLLEGE IN IN St. John, Barbados (p.28) is the oldest Anglican theological college in the Western Hemisp Mount Pelée in MARTINIQUE:. An extremely destructive eruption accompanied the growth of a lava dome at Mount Pelée, Martinique, 0n May 8, 1902. The coastal town of St. Pierre, about 4 miles down slope to the south, was demolished and nearly 30,000 inhabitants were killed by an incandescent, high-velocity ash flow and associated hot gases and volcanic dust. Only two men survived; one because he was in a poorly ventilated, dungeon-like jail cell and the other who somehow made his way safely through the burning city. This album contains some PRE-ERUPTION views of Martinique and St. Pierre. According to the web, photographer FELIX MORIN was active circa 1869-1896 in Trinidad and Tobago. Many of his photographs of immigrants from India were taken ca 1870.
