Antique handmade & homemade one piece pine wood stoneware crock lid with it's original lifting handle, square nails and old & original deep sky blue paint over an earlier brown paint retaining it's original old natural dry surface, as found. Maine , 1880's. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 2 lbs. 11 1/8" diameter by 1 3/4" thick including the handle. Antique handmade & homemade one piece pine wood stoneware crock lid with it's original lifting handle, square nails and old & original deep sky blue paint over an earlier brown paint retaining it's original old natural dry surface, as found. We found this leaning up inside a kitchen cupboard in the main home. It is a stoneware crock lid. We have included photographs of the lid on a 4 gallon broken stoneware crock to show how it worked and looked. The broken crock in the photographs is NOT part of the listing; we are selling ONLY THE LID . This is a great lid, the best we have found in a long time. Homemade and handmade with crude whittle marks, the lid is beautifully worn to a very clean silky smooth natural surface on the underside that also has a great original scribed "X" made by the carver. The top of the lid has a fine hand carved pine wood handle that is nailed on with square nails. This whole top is painted with a splendid old deep sky blue paint. This old paint is painted over an earlier medium brown paint. Pleasingly, this brown under paint actually acts to enhance the intensity of the blue paint giving it a radiance that it would lack if just painted on the plain pine wood. Display for a "power blue" look is no problem with this lid for it may easily stand alone on a shelf but, as antiquarians know, used again as a... hard to find & scarce in great old paint... lid on a crock is the way to maximize this wonderful lid. It should fit a three or four gallon crock easily as shown in the photographs but check the measurement. As the photos show, it's a great lid. Very good as found condition. T is nothing wrong with this at all and, additionally, this one is notably clean due to it's kitchen storage use. It probably covered a kitchen sugar crock for at least 100 years. Right out of the kitchen cupboard, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and lightest soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs. As found this past March in an estate in Black Point , Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in the main house. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this old stoneware crock lid with wonderful original old blue paint for $4.99 NR..
