1880 TOKEN Wailuku Plantation Token, 1 Real, AU55 PCGS. M. 2TE-6. A lightly circulated walnut-brown representative of the one real Wailuku Plantation token. Evenly struck and nearly devoid of marks. Both sides exhibit planchet striations that occurred when the copper strip was rolled down to proper thickness. Based on the Spanish-American money system, one real was equal to 12 1/2 cents. The Wailuku Plantation, located on the island of Maui, was a cane sugar farm founded by Edward Bailey. In 1877, he sold the plantation to the Wailuku Sugar Co.
