Magnificient Victorian Era 1880's piano lamp which was converted from the original oil burner and wick system over to modern electric 110 volt. Fully wired for regular 110 volt outlet with a switch on the cord and fully functional. The majority of the lamp is bronze/brass and the patina is original. The lamp is height adjustable and adjusts from approx. 5 feet (60") high from the bottom of the feet to the top of the glass globe to approx. 7 feet (84") with a two foot (approx.) adjustment range. Note: The lamp does adjust up and down freely the whole 2 feet but t is a missing set screw or set knob which would lock the lamp into that adjusted height. I am confident that a knob or set screw could be obtained without great difficulty to complete this task. The l amp was bought by me this way some 8-9 years ago without the set screw and I just left it as it. The glass globe is approx. 9" in diameter. I do believe that the globe is original. The globe is handpainted and is quite elegeant. The globe has been repaired. At some prior time the globe was damaged and reglued. (See pictures). The damage was not to the whole gobe, but a section. Not that bad. I purchased the globe in this exact condition and had no problem with it. I always faced the lamp with the broken area to the rear. It never botd me due to the fact that it was original and simply out standing. New repro globes are readily available and you could even find an original globe for this lamp but I prefered the one that came with it because it looks amazing when the lamp is lit. The work on this lamp is simply amazing. The word "NIAGRA" is seen on the wick adjustment knob for the oil burner. The NIAGARA burner was a custom designed and custom made very bright burner which provided more light than any conventional gas kerosene or oil burning lamp of the time. It was a center draft burner designed to fit a conventional fount/collar without a center draft tube. It was not designed for a mantle. The Niagra burner was patented by Frank Rhind on May 1, 1888, assigned to Charles Upton and manufactured by the Rochester Lamp Company. Having the fancy NIAGRA inscription on the oil burner adjustment knob does add character to the lamp. If you look around at websites and resellers of these types and era lamps you will see very few with the outstanding detailing of this one, and the retail prices are much, much higher, in the $2400+ range.Shipping to the USA is FREE.
