This is stunning set of absolutely gorgeous earrings from the Victorian era, elegant, glitzy,and all hand made which earrings of that era were. During the Victorian era, as well as the Georgian and Edwardian period, all fine jewelry was custom made to go with the diamonds and gemstones that were available. Diamonds, particularly, were very hard to come by and especially difficult to match. All of these diamonds are perfectly matched. All diamonds were set in silver, and in the case of rings w the silver would be directly against the skin, 18 k gold was used as a double setting for the stones. This was done because silver tarnishes and would get on the skin and cause discoloration, and this would prevent that. Earrings that were created during this time period always had an open back behind each stone so that the natural light, candle light, or sunlight would filter through each one and create a dazzle of sparkle. If you look at photo #2, you will see that this was exactly the way that these were made. All of the diamonds( 20 in each earring for a total of 40 diamonds totaling .35 carat weight) in these earrings are prong set in silver and then double set in 18k white gold on the edges of each setting. In the center of these works of art is a 1/2 carat perfectly matched RICH BLUE tear drop shaped TOPAZ (totaling 1carat), bezel set in the silver and 18k yellow gold. The prong set diamonds(four) at the top of the setting is joined with the rest of the earring by an 18k yellow gold loop. The shephards hooks,( so called because of their shape like a shephard's staff) is also 18k yellow gold.) T is lots of sparkle, with clean, white diamonds and deep blue color in the topaz.T is a 1 1/2" drop from w the shephards hooks go into the ear and the setting of the earring by itself measures 1"long x 5/8" wide .THESE EARRINGS ARE VERY WELL MADE, DELICATE LOOKING, BUT VERY SUBSTANTIAL.. I HAVE A $250.00 RESERVE ON THESE JUST TO PROTECT MY INVESTMENT. THEY HAVE BEEN CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF THE SETTINGS ARE INTACT AND HAVE BEEN CLEANED.
