Offered is a circa 1880s-90s gorgeous early transitional weaving that measures 2 feet 10 inches long by 2 foot 8 inches wide or 34" wide x 32" long. It comes from the Navaho Nation and is in very good to excellent condition. It was woven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native hand shorn, hand carded and handspun soft silky long staple Churro sheep wool weft on a stout Trading Post cotton cord warp. This piece is just shimmering with brilliant colors, which is a result of the long stapled silky Churro wool being dyed with bright colors. Long stapled worsted wool has a much higher degree of light reflection than the short staple, curly Merino quality wools. The utility of this piece was either for a small child size trade blanket or possibly a large fancy single saddle blanket. One of the photos shows how the blanket would look when folded for wearing like an old serape. The design of this sweet little piece features a large central serrated concentric diamond. To each side are 3 smaller serrated half diamonds. This weaving is finished at each end with a compound stripe of brilliant lemon yellow and silvery purple. We obtained this Native American textile in Colorado Springs , Colorado just to offer to you on eBay. It has a soft, silky weft count averaging 26 per inch and a warp count of 8 per inch.
