Antique giant size cut, bent, pierced, soldered and tinned steel grater with it's original handle and supports retaining it's original old surface, as found. Maine , 1880's (?). Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1 3/4 lbs. 17" inches tall by 6 1/2" wide by 2 ¾" deep. Antique giant size cut, bent, pierced, soldered and tinned steel grater with it's original handle and supports retaining it's original old surface, as found. Sorry to resort to the soda can for size comparison in the photograph but nothing else seemed to show the true "giant size" of this grater. It was hanging in the summer kitchen. What it was used for was casually and inconclusively speculated on. T are little bits of a dried vegetable still very occasionally stuck in a grater eye. It must have been intended to grate a lot of whatever it grated but we don't know what. It's very well made. Beyond function and due to it's size, it has a strong decorative appeal. Although the hang-on-the-wall route is applicable, our short association with it prefers the stand-alone table top sculpture display. W we have had it sit, awaiting cataloging, has been free table top display and... it's a handle & fuss with magnet. They go right to it and pick it up and "wow" and "what for" and ..."I like it". The last is the cinch. On display it cannot fail AND... it can be knock on the floor and "be OK" too. Very good as found condition. Excepting natural light usage wear and old surface oxidation to the tin plate, t is nothing wrong with the grater at all. This one is in really good shape with a fine patina on it's original surface. Absolutely untouched and as found. Right out of the summer kitchen, the grater has appropriate surface oxidation and soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs. As found this past March in an estate in Black Point , Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in the summer kitchen. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this wonderful giant grater for $4.99 NR.
