1881 Hand Colored County Map of Territories of IDAHO, MONTANA and WYOMING Beautifully Detailed Configuration 131 years ago An outstanding hand colored county map of the Territories of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming entitled COUNTY MAP of IDAHO, MONTANA and WYOMING and dated 1881. This map is from the book Our Western Empire or the New West Beyond the Mississippi by L.P. Brockett, A.M., M.D. The topographical features are detailed and the railroads are identified by name, the Northern Pacific Railroad stops at Miles City, Montana and picks up again in Pend d Oreille, Idaho, the Utah Northern Railroad goes north from Ogden to Fairview, Montana and the Union Pacific runs through southern Wyoming. Directly to the north are British Possessions as Canada was then called. Each county is shown in a different color and there are some significant differences from the current formation, for instance Montana and Wyoming have only eight counties (currently over 50 and 20), Idaho 13 (currently over 40). Idaho and Wyoming became states in 1890, Montana in 1889. Map image size is 9½" by 12¼" with margins as issued. Condition In very good shape, this 128 year map is in excellent shape.
