Nothing could be further from the truth. Dealers estimate that as many as 70% of all the specimens they see today are in some form of mint condition. This is due to the tremendous quantity of this issue being placed in bullion storage by the government after they were struck.When the GSA held its sales in 1973 and 1974, the huge quantity of 605,029 1882-CC Morgan dollars was offered to the public. All of these, which represented 54% of the entire issue, were in Mint State. For some reason, the public bought this issue heavily, to the extent that every one of the coins available was sold. Clearly, the 1882-CC is an extremely common coin in Mint State, and MS-65 examples are so plentiful that they are in the inventory of every silver dollar dealer.Most collectors consider the ‘82-CC, ‘83-CC, and ‘84-CC issues as sisters who have tended to move together on the coin market. This issue is somewhat less common than the others, but it is available in large quantities nonetheless. It is generally found boldly struck with good to excellent luster. Bagmarks are about average for a Morgan dollar, but t are many pieces available with only minor abrasions. Morgan, who had been a pupil of Wyon in the Royal Mint in London. His initial M is found at the base of the neck by the last lock of hair on the obverse, and on the reverse on the left most loop of the ribbon.
