You are bidding on a very historical book that lists the location levels and transits of the Milwaukee Roads expansion into the Dakotas in 1880. The book is in good condition, and on the cover, as can be seen in the image in the listing, says Location Transit Note "A" line Sta. 2140 to Sta. 3208 Ashton South James Valley. The first page has the same info on it as the cover, but lists the name of the engineer ( Baker ) and Max Lindenman ( ? ) as transit man July 1883. This book has some drawing of the land, and mentions Beadle and Spink counties, as well as entering flax, barley, wheat and oat fields. One page also seems to mention the Tulare depot, which is south of Ashton on the James River Division. One of the best comments in the book was on July 4, 1883. It says "Cool (?) (108 degrees in the shade), July 4th 83 Quit July 3rd no stakes hot" I have this in the listing to give an idea what it must have been like to survey this new right of way.The book measures about 6.75 X 4 inches and is about 1/2 inches thick.I have a few images from the book to give a good feel for it.If you have any questions or need a better image, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for looking.
