is an original 1884 " Hardesty's Historical and Geographical Encyclopedia ". This is a large format atlas measuring 11 1/2 by 14 3/4 inches. Inside on the title page it reads in part, " Large scale copper plate maps of each state and Territory of the United States and the provinces of Canada: Reference maps of the world: Topographical and Railroad map of United States..... " " Special History of the Virginias/ Maps and Histories of Roane, Calhoun, Jackson and Wirt Counties, West Virginia ". The covers are worn and taped. It is missing the spine cover. Most all pages are taped-in at the spine when it must have been repaired in the past. See photos. It's tough to describe condition on such a massive work but goes. All maps seem to be present. The maps in front area are biblical related areas and other than some minor stains and foxing are in good shape. Starting from page 26/27 " Map of the World " up to and including page 55, " Map of United States " t is a 1 1/2 inch water stain on bottom area of page. From t to page 87, " Map of New York " t are 2 larger water stains per page about 1 3/4 of an inch long. These pages cover the Canada maps and US Map, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Mass., Rhode Island, Conn., New York, and Southern New York. These all have water stains to varying degrees. After that the maps just have minor staining and foxing but are essentially in nice shape. Overall in the book are about 35 pages { including some maps } with a cellophane taped tear in bottom area mostly about 1 1/2 inches long. See photos. One of the California maps has the tape in center bottom. The Wirt and Jackson County, WV maps are on opposing sides of one sheet. They have a one inch taped area on lower left. The Roane and Calhoun, WV county maps are on opposing sides of one sheet also. They also have a taped 1 1/4 inch tear on lower left. These Wet Virginia county maps show some staining also. The back personal history pages beginning on page 321 to the end of the book show tears and missing paper holes at the spine. See photos. These pages are rougher than the rest of book with tears, more taping, more staining, foxing, etc. The last page of this section is taped around the entire edging. The last pages have recorded some births, deaths and marriages written in pen. Overall the entire book is some foxing, small tears, light small stains, small bits of pen writing, etc. Email with any questions before bidding. Selling strictly, " As Is, No Returns Allowed ".
