Billhead has crease folds tears. 1 1/2 inch tear at lower right edge..-------------.----------- History info of Carrie----------- Carrie D. Filkins was born in Scattlcoke New York March 10, 1828. She was the eldest child of George Filkins and Salome (Gardner) Filkins whom are descendants of Henry Filkins, the Founder of the American Filkins family who in the latter part of the 1600s came from Holland to Dutchers county New York. This is a pioneer woman of the Temperance Movement, Miss Carrie D. Filkins. According to notices published in The Freeman's Journal dated January 26, 1855, Miss Filkins toured throughout Otsego County giving Temperance lectures until Feb. 7 1855, which left her free to be at Cooperstown on Feb. 9 to appear with Susan B. Anthony. She was known from 1828-1858 as Carrie D. Filkins. From late 1858-1866 she was known as Carrie D. Filkins Bush (Carrie divorced her husband William Bush in March 1861 in Marion Indiana). Her son was born in 1859 whom she named Robert Edwin Bush. On March 31 1866 Carrie D. Filkins-Bush & Son (Eddie) left Bellefonte Ohio to go to Leavenworth City wear they began their Overland Wagon trip west on the Milt Orr's Train with Wagon Master W.S. Simpkins. The eventful trip ended on July 4 1866 arriving in Salt Lake City with the sounds of guns booming as they were entering the City on Independence Day. C.F. Young and her seven-year-old son Eddie stayed for six weeks in Salt Lake before taking a Stage to Boise City Idaho to see future husband to be - William J. Young. He was at the time a Photographer at Kline's building on Main Street in Boise City, and also was a clerk for internal Revenue service in the Idaho Territory. Wm J. Young and Carrie D. Filkins had known each other in earlier years, when they studied medicine together back in the 1850's. Wm. J. Young saw articles in Greely's New York Tribune of Carrie D. Filkins and he wrote her and she came west. (Via wagon trip mentioned above). In the 1866 era Carrie was now going by the name Carrie F. Young. On the trip from Boise City, Carrie and family arrived in Saratoga near San Jose California and immediately was active lecturing and working as Corresponding Editor of a publication called California Agriculturist in San Jose. In May 1870 Carrie F. Young - Editor & Proprietor of " Women's Pacific Coast Journal " was published in San Francisco and printed by the Woman's Co-Operative Printing Union. The Union which was just incorporated June 1869 and advertised on page fifteen of Volume 1 #1 being located at 424 Montgomery Street San Francisco and were employing a total of seven women and girls. Women's Pacific Journal of Health had a total of 19 issues from May 1870 thru November 1871 with a total of two hundred forty pages of print. January 1872 C.F. & W.J. Young published her newly titled magazine Pacific Journal of Health in San Francisco 403 Sansom Street, and at Nicasio, Marin County Cal. Printed by Crocker & co. Print, corner of Sansom & Sac. (formerly Women's Pacific Coast Journal). In 1872 C.F. Young went out on extensive Temperance Speaking & Lecture tours thru Western States including Oregon, Washington, Idaho & Utah, A Letter dated June 12 1872 on North Western Stage Company of Boise City Idaho letterhead letter stating they will pass Mrs. Carrie F. Young at one half fare. This Allows Mrs. Young an outside seat "if t be a vacant one" from La Grande to Carusi at her own risk - and without any responsibility on part of the company, signed Wm. B. Morris Superintendent. A poster circular printed by A.G. Walling Portland mentions a Temperance Speech Based on the 2nd, 3d, and 4th Clauses of the declaration of Independence by Carrie F. Young. Poster circular states this about Carrie's Lectures: "Lectures equal to the best of John B. Gough's of Walla Walla W.T. and with out a doubt one of the best natural Orators on the Pacific Coast... read more
