Rare antique souvenir metal replica of the Statue of Liberty made in 1885, a year before the real Statue was dedicated in New York Harbor. This is one of the original Statue replicas made for potential donors before the real Statue was dedicated in 1886. This antique Statue of Liberty replica is made in two pieces - the Statue itself fits onto a connector on the pedestal. The replica is cast in lead with very precise detail, especially in the pedestal's architectural elements. It stands 6.75" tall on a flared 3" square tin base that is embossed "LIBERTY ENLIGHTENING THE WORLD - PAT. FEBRY 18, 1879 - JULY 16, 1885". The top inside of the pedestal has writing embossed on it, but it is rubbed out and barely legible. This Statue shows her age - she is missing her torch, the spikes on her crown are bent down, and the finish is worn. This is a fascinating piece of American history that dates from the very beginnings of the venerable Statue of Liberty.
