1886, $5 Silver Certificate. CGA Choice Uncirculated 64. Fr-265. The Silver Dollar Back design is one of the most popular type notes in all U.S. currency collecting, because of its back design which features five 1886 Morgan Silver Dollars. The crossover appeal to coin collectors has long been sufficient to make it a more expensive note than its scarcer 1891 counterpart, but high grade examples have always been scarce enough to make the appearance of one at auction an opportunity for spirited bidding. This example is pleasing for the grade, and is pedigreed to the Plymouth Rock Collection. Far away the rarest Friedberg number of the type, and likely the Finest Known of the 22 extant. A number of the known examples are in permanent institutions.
