1886-90/ Blacksmith Business Ledger /Area of Taunton MA 1886-1890 --- The full, hardcover, business ledger for a blacksmith business somew in the area of -- we believe -- Taunton, Massachusetts, that is the subject of this auction begins with entries for expenditures and receipts in 1886 and continues to 1890, and numbered page 195.Total numbered pages of 199. 13 X 6 1/2 inches. The entries mostly occupy every line, or a majority of lines, of each page on which they appear, some forty lines to the page. Most pages full. Shoeing horses, selling hay, and other related equine matters appear throughout the ledger as well as household expenses. Brown marbled boards. Tape-covered spine and quarters. Condition very difficult: spine covering missing; rubbing; hinges loose; some detached pages at the front; foxing; heavy edgewear; in sum, general wear all-around. But at bottom, though calligraphy was not the best in the first place, most every word is still legible.
