Description: Perfectly stunning Victorian period Classic Art nouveau solid silver german centrepiece dish made by the German silversmiths of Knapp & Schlesinger & marked with the German hallmarks for post 1886. An oval centrepiece with floral motifs & an open work base containing a conforming brass liner. The silver work is in alovely condition with no dents or faults, the shape & form has a classical art nouveau organic sweeping style with sweeping large handles. the centre front on both sides has a floral motif with n intricate sweeping form. the area by & around the handles has a flowing water pattern on & around the handles. It sits on four spread heavy gauge silver feet The item was most probably used as a glass chiller, the brass liner being filled with ice & having two rings at either end to lift out & drop in the liner to it's beautiful silver holder. The bowl measures 15.5 inches from handle to handle , whilst the silver bowl measures 11 inches long by 8.5 inches wide. The total weight of this dish is 1102grams the silver part of this stunning piece weighs 654 grammes. the silver has the national german mark of the crescent & the crown , the liner weighs 449grms.
