1886 Handwritten/signed Louis Pasteur Note & MemorabiliaNote written in French, dated May 4, 1886, translates "Monsieur the President and Dear Friend-- I am grateful for the interest that the French Scientific Association is willing to take in the Pasteur Foundation. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) French Chemist and Biologist, famous for germ theory and development of vaccines Pasteur was the founder of the scienceof microbiology and proved that most infectious diseases are caused by micro-organisms, the "germ theory" of disease. He also invented the process of pasteurization and developed vaccines for several diseases including rabies and anthrax. A major breakthrough in his career came when he treated Joseph Meister, a nine-year-old boy who was suffering with 14 bites from a rabid dog. With the consent of the child's physician he treated the boy with injections over a 12-day period and the child recovered.
