RARE 1886 MT. LEBANON , NEW YORK SHAKER IMPRINT BY F. W. EVANS SABBATH [Cover Title]. (By F. W. Evans). ( Mount Lebanon , NY ): [Published by the Author], ( March 19, 1886 ). First edition [MacLean. Shaker Literature, 267; McKinstry . The Edward Deming Andrews Memorial Shaker Collection, 184]. Printed self-wrappers (covers measure 5 ½ by 3 inches) [Cover title: "SABBATH"], 7 pages (single sheet, folded twice, to make 8 pages, with the top edges uncut & unopened). Pagination as follows: [1 ]( title), [2](blank), 3-7(text), [8](blank). Prints the text of a letter by F. W. Evans, addressed to "For the Eagle," about scriptural interpretations of the Sabbath. Signed in type, at end: "F.W. Evans, Mount Lebanon , N.Y. , March 19, 1886 ." An unopened copy (as you can see in the scans, the top edges remain uncut by the printer). This was meant to be stapled, and have the top edges "opened" (or cut) by the publisher.
This copy was left as an uncut single sheet, printed on both sides. It is certainly even more unusual to encounter an early, privately printed Shaker publication in this format. At some point it was roughly opened by someone, resulting in an uneven one-inch chip on the front cover (no loss of text), the first leaf of text has a neat two-inch closed tear (no loss of text). I have taken scans of the item, clearly showing the tears. T is no loss to printed text, and despite the chip on the front cover, it is a good, sound copy of a very rare Shaker imprint. T are no copies for sale on any of the standard book websites, t are no auction records for this title during the last thirty years (per ABPC). is your chance to add this rare Shaker imprint to your collection. [ according to OCLC, which does a worldwide search of libraries and special collections, the Library of Congress, the Massachusetts Historical Society, Williams College , and Princeton Theological Seminary, are among only eight institutions that have this in their collection]. We accept Paypal , Checks and Money Orders. Safely packed priority mail, with Delivery Confirmation, will be $5.00 Shipping to most countries will be $9.50 for Global Priority
