Red Paramount Redfields - Graded MS65 back in the day by Paramount Coin Company. Awesome fields, perpherial tones and wonderful orginial mint lustre on most of these GEM BU morgan Dollars. Moneyback if not 100% content with the deal! Enjoy - Redfield Nick
The truth of the LaVere Redfield hoard of Silver Dollars varies by account. A fair representation follows. But first you see about fraud and Redfields - according to eBay’s guide on fraud and Redfield: /AVOIDING-FRAUD-IN-REDFIELD-DOLLARS_W0QQugidZ10000000004107808 Please consider that Redfield dollars are in fact always marked as such by Paramount. This is confirmed in the Van Allen & Mallis Morgan and Peace Dollars 4th Edition (pages 403 to 407). I actively seek and collect Redfield and Paramount Dollars in the red and blue-black holders. My travels for work are extensive in the United States so I will seek out coins shops in idle time. The coins are very much like GSA dollars in the original holders, never dipped, wiped, whizzed or cleaned – just raw and simply delightful. That’s why they and GSA dollars command such a premium at market. Paramount Redfield dollars are unique in this day and time as they are virgin coins with awesome natural mint luster and in many cases a delightful peripheral tone from the cardboard holder. Prices may seem exorbitant – downright screwy since at the time Paramount slabbed these coins (starting a new craze adopted by PCGS and others) t was not as defined or rigorous grading as found today. Redfield and Paramount Dollars come in Red (MS 65) and Blue/Black (MS 60) sonically sealed holders. My first three Redfield dollars were naively sent to NGC for grading and slabbing. The dollars which were in MS65 Paramount holders came back MS 61-64. The resulting loss in value was astounding. T is intrinsic value to coin in the original Paramount holder, not unlike a Carson City dollar dated 1890 or 1891 in the GSA holder versus a slabbed 1890-cc in MS 63 from one of the major grading services. Don’t ever submit a Redfield for grading unless you like throwing money away – the exception is if you are sure to have as MS65 or better coin, and always request attribution to Redfield if you do slab. So how does one price a Redfield? First and foremost – always- always- buy the coin and not the holder. I am repeating that again: always- buy the coin and not the holder. A typical MS65 Paramount Redfield will likely grade out less than MS65 unless the coin is pristine with no bag marks and perfect fields. The best way to determine pricing is to review the market – for example, I like to check out past sales on eBay. Also see what is available at retail – Buy it Now on eBay or consider a few great sources such as the highly reputable King of Carson - Selby Ungar . NFC in Winter Springs Florida also features several Redfield dollars . Back to pricing – figure the grey sheet MS 65 price and back off that to about half between how you think your coin will grade out. Remember one mark on the face, over eye brow wear, rim ding or scratch in the field and you are not going to hit MS65 with PCGS, NGC or ANACs. If you have blue/black MS60 Redfield grade – price up from the MS 60 value to w you think it will grade out. As you will read later you’ll understand these bags were manhandled up until the time Redfield dropped them down his coal chute. It’s not hard to find Redfield dollars priced at MS65 prices from Coin Values or Grey sheets. Chances are good you see them again with the same folks at the next show. For some folks no amount of haggling will get them off their high price. I have learned to move on in these cases and passed on many sweet CC Redfield. Pricing Paramount dollars is not so easy as marked Redfield’s – again – buy the coin and not the holder. Then really closely examine the coin and set the value based on the grade. Forget about backing off MS 65 and splitting the difference. I have passed notice to many an eBay seller their dollars are n...
