Hello all!! 2006 is going to be an incredible year for auctions!! Back to the winter season already. It was a fantastic summer of cast iron hunting this year. I have banks manufactured by AC Williams, Hubley, Astro/Duro, Arcade , J&E Stevens, Chamberlain and Hill and many more. I have branched out into some of my other cast iron interests, mainly doorstops & paperweights but I have some unexpected surprises as well. Check out the Hubley mammy doorstop $300 in 1999!! J & E Stevens produced these banks c 1887. J and E Stevens of Cromwell Connecticut is the oldest toy company in America . It is synonymous with mechanical banks but it produced quite a few still banks as well. It produced banks from 1870 until the depression forced it's closure in the early 30's.The bank is in great shape, with no cracks, chips, breaks of any kind unless stated. The original brown lacquer is 97% intact & has a nice patina. The hand painted gold trim work is outstanding. This is not the green looking John Wright knock off, it's the real McCoy. The seams are tight, even, the pieces align well, has the original turn pin. 5 1/4 " high x 3 3/4" wide. In #1122 Moore 's penny book listed @ $300 in 2000. I suggest to the winner to print a copy of this auction, it will increase the resale value of your purchase tremendously having this information as a hard copy along with the bank. You are paying for this information, make use of it! Plus it's fun to look back in 20 years and say I only paid $200 for that way back when. Most of the banks today selling for $200-$400 were $15-$50 in the mid 1970's, big money when the reference guides I have were printed. Please ask any and all questions before auction ends.
