âe(tm) s baseball card #219 from the âe~87 Goodwin & Co. OldJudge Gypsy Queen N172 set, pitcher Egyptian Healy of the Indianapolis Hoosiers.
It is graded as Authentic by Sportscard Guaranty Ltd. of Parsippany, NJ, and appropriately labeled and encased in clear lucite.
It is rare: In its history, SGC has only authenticated 1 other card of this type!
Long John got his nickname because he was born in Cairo, Illinois. He led the National League in losses (29!) the year this card came out. In fact, he lost 20 or more 4 times during his 8-year career . . . which also included stops at St. Louis, Baltimore, and Washington, among others.
This was one of the first-ever complete sets of baseball cards issued, a massive undertaking that includes more than 500 players -- some with numerous poses.
