ANTIQUE ORIGINAL HAND DRAWN MICHIGAN MAP SURVEY - 1887
Hand Drawn on a material with which we are unfamiliar (looks like cloth, sounds like paper... possibly onion skin?) this listing is for an Old Original Map of a part of SAGINAW BAY, which is signed by both its maker, "Surveyed in January & May 1887 By H.D. Bartholomew D.D.," and its owner, "Belongs to W.L. Webber, Saginaw, Mich." It is clear that these signatures are in the handwriting of two different persons, so we feel confident that these can be taken at face value, and are of the hand of the owner and of the surveyor. Please scroll down to see our photos and excuse the glare from our lighting. The material is a bit glossy on one side and reflected the lighting. On a historic note, t was a "W.L. Webber" documented to have run the Saginaw, Tuscola and Huron Railroad during the 1880s, who brought tourists to Bay Port from East Saginaw by the trainload for the purpose of rock hunting excursions at Bay Port Quarry. We don't know if this is the same fellow, but thought it might be a possibility to consider. When unfolded, the Map measures approximately 11 by 7 inches and is in very good condition, as shown. The printing is neat and legible and the high quality paper (?) is bright and clean. T is lots of small detailing in this Map: "A = Natural Channel, 1-3 Ft Deep, 25-100 [abbreviation for some unit of measurement we don't understand] wide; C = Artificial Channel 2-3 Ft Deep, 30 [unknown unit] wide." The locations of an "elm tree, rice field, and shooting box" are defined.
