Offering for bid with NO RESERVE is one absolutely gorgeous and hard to find EAPG vintage souvenir glass of the Grand Army of the Republic a/k/a GAR or G.A.R. encampment held in Milwaukee August 27th to 30th, 1889. This vintage Early American Pattern Glass goblet measures 6 3/4" tall and is beautifully and boldly embossed with the GAR medal emblem including an American flag depicting 13 stars for the original colonies as can be seen in the photos, with 23rd National Encampment embossed along one side and the dates of the encampment embossed along the other side. Wonder if a civil war veteran had a toast or two from this glass. This civil war fraternal group was organized in 1866 and was composed of union soldiers who had enlisted in the army from 1861-1865 but t was also a Ladies of the GAR. They met annually in different parts of the country until they disbanded in the 1940's I believe. This particular 117 year old civil war memento stemmed tumbler was given away or sold at the 23rd such reunion held in Milwaukee and is clear and clean and in what I would consider near mint condition with scant few minor use marks and no nics, chips, dings, cracks, etc. Can be seen on page 283 of Standard Encyclopedia of Pressed Glass, Third Edition and has a book value t of $165.00.
