FRANK LOUVILLE BOWIE (1857-1936) Maine artist. Member of the “Brush-Ins” group. Friendly with Winslow Homer.� OFFERED HERE: Approx. 52 pieces of various paper giving a personal look at� Bowie's painting life in the late 1890's, early 1900's.Included are: 1] F. O. Bailey 1910 auction receipt for the sale of 7 Bowie paintings made out to Bowie. 2]� Six 1890's "Health" related newspapers published by the Allen Sarsaparilla Company in Woodfords Maine for which Bowie had designed all but one of� the decorative headline banners. One newspaper is starting at the vertical centerfold & one is� completely separated at the vertical centerfold. 3] Prize winners list� from Allen Sarsaparilla Co. Bowie won 1st prize in two categories. 4} 10 pages of price lists of his paintings, 9 hand written,� with titles & hoped for prices. 5] Handwritten list of paintings Bowie sent to Marshall Field & Co. in Chicago. 6] 4 professionally printed 1 page handouts - "CATALOGUE -Exhibition of Oil and Water Color Paintings - Frank L. Bowie" 7] Paper bound cash account book. Lists of art supplies purchased, monies received for pictures &� illustration work [17 pages loose], 3 pages list people who said they would purchase a painting with delivery address listed. Bowie has marked those paid whose sale was completed, last page lists, with titles & prices, paintings
