Sign up for my email newsletters by adding my eBay Store to your Favorites A cute miniature sample size Dr.Bouvier's Buchu Gin, which was a medicinal gin from the 1890's. This fancy little bottle is embossed DR.C.BOUVIER'S BUCHU GIN (vertical on front panel).....Hand blown.....hand tooled cork top collar....square with fancy fluting around shoulder and rows of beads and rings around neck.....amethyst....4 1/2"tall.....Excellent Near Mint Condition with no chips, cracks or damage of any kind. A dug bottle, but nice and clean with only a tiny bit of faint inside haze. This was a free sample size bottle given away to induce customers to purchase the larger quart bottles of Buchu Gin. It was a popular medicinal gin from Louisville,Ky. The beautiful amethyst or purple color of this glass is a result of the presence of manganese in the glass, which was a decolorizer to turn the glass clear. Most of the manganese used in glass factories came from Germany, so when WW1 broke out in 1914, it became much harder to obtain manganese. Other oxide decolorizers were then used instead, so most bottles made after 1918 or so read more
