1890 Game of Fish Pond, McLoughlin Bros, New York Patented Jan. 28, 1890, measures 10 1/4" wide, 19 1/4" long x 1" high. Paper covered wooden and cardboard box. Chromolithograph on cover shows a small boy in a sailor suit and little girl with large hat and fishing pole in a rowboat. (Rare image for this game. I have not found this image on any of the other ones I have seen listed or sold.) The game includes 4 wooden 16" dowel fishing poles with line and metal hooks (1 pole is missing its line and hook.) There are 16 remaining fish made of cardboard with lithograph designs. The fish are numbered on one side and have the name of the species of fish on the other. (See photos.). Some of the original fish are missing and 5 of the remaining 16 fish are missing their tails. The playing board is lithographed with a fishing pond. There are slots in the board where the fish would be inserted tail first. The object was to hook the fish through the grommeted hole in their heads. (NOTE: the brass grommet is missing on 8 of the 16 fish.) This method of play explains why the tails are missing and why the remaining tails show wear at the tail. There is significant wear to the box. The bottom shows water staining and the bottom is partially separated from the sides. The paper covering on the sides of the box is missing in many areas.
