This is an incredibly interesting book which has a great foldout copy of a map of Africa published by John Ogilby in 1670. The book is filled with wonderful woodcut illustrations and several color illustrations. Two of the illustrations are "African Superstitions Illustrated" and "Battle with a Crocodile". Chronicles "How Stanley Found Emin Pasha". and covers Buel's whole history of African exploration and discovery. The book shows cornerwear, spine fraying, the pages are separated from the cover, one color illustration and a couple pages have been torn out but are present, and appears to be missing pages 569 & 570.
