This rare book titled 1890 FIRE DEPARTMENT. ASSIGNMENTS TO DUTY. was issued to the Bureau Chief of the Headquarters of the New York City Fire Departments on January 2, 1890. The 9 x 11 inch book has a black cloth binding with a gilt title on the top cover. The 241 page book shows which departments will respond to which alarms. "The assignments on the first lines will respond on the first alarm; those on the second lines, on the second alarm; those on the third lines, on the third alarm; those on the fourth lines, on the fourth alarm, and those on the fifth lines on the fifth alarm, at the stations designated." "The instructions relative to the duties of the Chief Officer to respond at the central office, the companies supply fuel, the companies to change locations, the assignments of the reserve force, and the special calls and other signals (as amended) will follow the assignments." This book is missing three pages, page 1-2 and pages 155-156 & 157-158. T is a small water stain in the lower right margin of a few pages towards the end otherwise this rare 119 year old NYC Fire Department Assignment Book is in very good condition!
