I recently obtained, from a local widow, her late husband's vast and varied Collectibles collection, and this antique bottle, among many, is one such example. I will also be listing many more Collectibles in the near future. we have an an antique, Pre-1900 Figural, EAR of CORN WHISKEY BOTTLE, shaped exactly like a real Ear of Corn! Glass is Aquamarine in color with tiny internal bubbles and contains, what appears to be, a flat applied "cut" lip opening with screw threads. A goodly amount of the original hand-painted surface yellow paint for the corn and green paint for the husk covering is present, thus simulating an ear of corn. Our local senior bottle expert and collector became relatively excited upon seeing this bottle and revealed that he had never seen anything exactly like it, but the aquamarine-colored glass and cut lip put it at Pre-1900 in age. His considered opinion was that this was a whiskey manufacturer's decorative corn whiskey promotional sample given out by traveling whiskey salesmen to their favored and largest retail sellers, stores, etc., as a "thank you" for doing business; in other words, an advertising premium which was not uncommon way back then. He went on to say that it originally had a "stand-up" provision, probably a thin, corn stalk frame so it would display upright. He said that this bottle is rare.Length
