This is a large leather-bound book of block-by-block maps of Lower Manhattan from Canal Street to 14 th Street , showing plats in Wards 8 through 17. It is titled BLOCK BOOK OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK , CANAL STREET TO FOURTEENTH ST. , VOL. 2. Subtitled " For Use Of The Real Estate Agents, Conveyancers, Title Investigators, Etc." Published by I. P. Guzman & Co. Lithographer. It is not dated, but newspaper clippings and real estate sales ads pasted on several pages have dates from 1898 to 1908. Contains 8 hand colored ward maps glued onto linen and 537 black and white plat maps printed on both sides of heavy paper. Major streets included are Broadway, Canal, Bowery, Houston and 14th. Most of the plat maps have penciled notations of property ownership and transactions in tiny, clear handwriting with dates showing the book was used from 1890 to 1910 by someone in the real estate industry. The newspaper clippings and real estate ads are historically interesting for insight into prices and issues âe" such as condemnation for public projectsâe"100 years ago. The book also could have genealogical interest for its names and addresses of property owners. The book measures 16 x 10 inches and weighs 10 lbs. Two title pages âe" one for the overall book and one for Wards 8 and 14 -- and the eight ward maps are lithographs by I.P. Guzman. The book is bound in brown leather covered with brown linen for protection against wear. Spine is ribbed. The linen is torn on the spine and the leather edges of the spine are worn. End papers are heavy marbleized paper. The lithographed ward maps show wear and are soiled and were torn before they were glued to linen âe" which has preserved them. Binding is tight. Plat pages are lightly tanned from age and some that touch newspaper clippings are browned. Shipping to a U.S. address by media mail, or priority mail if buyer wants fast delivery. International shipping at actual cost. Shipping costs will be combined on multiple purchases. If you are not satisfied with a purchase, you may return it by insured mail for a refund.
