A very sweet still life of roses on canvas, from about 1880-1890. The colors are still bright, t is no flaking. At some point someone retouched the gold on the frame and t (as shown) but most of the gilding is original. When they were retouching the frame they got a tiny bit of gold onto the canvas as shown, hardly worth mentioning. It measures 8"X 10" just the painting, and with the frame it measures 12" X 14". The back shows a label that reveals that the canvas was purchased on Washington Street in Boston, w even in 1880 this was 'downtown'. These were usually painted by the ladies of a certain class who could not work and did not read on Sunday due to relgious reasons, but could paint and thus, these sweet paintings have been called "Sunday Paintings" for over a century. This is one of my favorites, I really love that she had them using a shaving mug as a vase, something very different and very charming. I haven't taken it out of the frame. I will ship very carefully and expertly.
