1891-CC $20 MS60 NGC. Gold coinage at Carson City in 1891 tilted strongly toward the smaller half eagle and eagle denominations and away from the hefty double eagles that are so associated with that Old West facility today. The 1891-CC double eagle mintage amounted to just 5,000 pieces, and the date is a condition rarity in the various Mint State levels. The present piece has no trace of wear, and the orange-tinged yellow-gold luster is bold. While the sharply struck portrait and the fields show numerous fine abrasions, accounting for the grade, there are few marks of any individual significance, a refreshing change from the usual 1891-CC twenty dollar. Census: 9 in 60, 25 finer (9/10). Grade: 60, Service: NGC, Service No.: 9017, Issue Date: 1891-CC, Mint Mark: CC, Denomination: $20
